For our final film opening, my partner and I had trouble figuring out names for the characters and the actual clip. Originally, we had thought to make a film about a heterosexual couple in which the. girl kidnaps her boyfriend and the boy’s older sister went looking for him. However, we found out that it had to be just a film opening, so the clip could not be very long. Because of that, most of what had been planned to film had to be cut, which caused the story to not make sense. In the end, we decided to change the plot, but not completely.
I had already asked one of my friends to act as the boyfriend, because he looked like he could be my partner’s brother. My partner would be playing his sister in the film and I his girlfriend. However, I thought that it would be easier to change the plot, so we decided to recast the part to a friend of mine who is in theater as well. I knew he acted well, so it was up to my friend to cast him, which we did.
The new story was going to be about a girl and a boy who are in an abusive relationship. I thought it would be a good idea that instead of the boy being abusive, we decided that the girl would be that way instead. I wanted to challenge societal norms such as women always being very characteristically motherly. Of course, there are many women that are like this, but there are also many women who abuse their significant other, and are not mentioned much. The third character in our story (played by my partner) was decided to be our friend who realizes there is something going on when she sees his bruises.
